My experiments with bleach on paper began after encountering some frustration with the restricitons and disadvantages of the conventional two-dimensional support. I sought to compress the advantages of the third and fourth dimensions—most notably, the innate ability to create a narrative over a period of time—into the traditional two-dimensional plane.
Through my process, I create only a single image on the top layer. As it saturates the layers of paper and loses information from the original image, time becomes evident and the image is able to be 'dissected' by separating each layer (of paper) of the image.
The manner in which the marks are made is also of great interest to me. Many in this series were created completely without my attendance—I set up the materials and allow the marks to form merely by the fumes of the medium blowing over the paper.
